And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the
law, that he rent his clothes.
-- 2 Chronicles 34 verse 19 (Kings James Bible)
Some things you do not need to see, hearing of them is
bad enough.
Seeing the devastating turmoil and sufferings in the
lives of others affects the spirit of a tenderhearted
person, especially when they can do nothing about it.
As was the case with Josiah, as he listened, he could
mentally see the sorrows that were to befall his people,
family and friends. Before even seeing any sign of
God’s impending wrath, his heart was already breaking.
Even though the sun was shining and all was well for
him at that time, he did not wait to see the first dark
cloud of grief. As his practice was, he broke down and
sought God with all of his heart to over turn it. God
would spare his eyes only.
As with Josiah, God is gracious to shield our natural
eyes from seeing things and events that would
otherwise wound our spirit too. Taking the time to build
and establish a relationship with God founded on love,
trust and respect well in advance of any peril, sickness
or sorrow turns into the ultimate blessing to the one that
does so.
May God’s Word thoroughly equip your spirit each day.

Review 2 Chronicles 34 verses 1-33
- 2 Chronicles 34 verses 26-28.
26. And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the
Lord, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel
concerning the words which thou hast heard;
27. Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this
place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself
before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I
have even heard thee also, saith the Lord.
28. Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be
gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the
evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of
the same. So they brought the king word again.
