But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to
him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left
me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
-- Luke 10 verse 40       (Kings James Bible)

Living requires a combination of choices.  It is not just a
matter of making a site selection as to where to live or
choosing from a variety of things to accommodate how
to live it.  We must also determine for ourselves the way
in which we will function on a daily basis too.
Regardless of economics, we also choose the method in
which to handle daily matters and other issues.

The same was true for Martha and Mary.  Both had
obvious differences in the priorities of daily living.
Though an argument would be easy to make for either
side, Christ settled it.  He made it quite clear, that Mary’s
style of living had a quality and an excellence to it that
He would not take away.  Just because Martha chose to
do some thing different was irrelevant.

Jesus teaches us that individuals have the option of
receiving the life He had planned for them from the
beginning of time, or rejecting it entirely.  Whether one
chooses to live it, or forfeit it‘s blessing, is completely up
to the individual and no one else.  With Jesus, we do not
have to settle for living less than a full life just because
others choose to live a cumbered one.

May God’s Word strengthen your faith in Him each day.

  • Luke 10 verses 38-42
    38.  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a
certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him
    into her house.
    39.  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus'
    feet, and heard his word.
    40.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to
him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me
to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
    41.  And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou
art careful and troubled about many things:
    42.  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good
part, which shall not be taken away from her.
